Series Roots

The BC Road Racing Series, founded in 1995 as a developmental wheelchair racing program, has played a pivotal role in promoting the integration of individuals with physical disabilities into sports and recreation through organized road racing events. Initially focused on wheelchair racing, the series underwent significant expansion and development over the years.

In 2000, recognizing the growing scope of its activities, the organization officially incorporated as a non-profit society and underwent a name change to WC Race Series Society. This change reflected the expansion of road racing beyond British Columbia into Western Canada, and the incorporation of track racing into the program, broadening the opportunities for athletes with physical disabilities to engage in competitive sports.

Notably, in 2012, the series took another significant stride by incorporating field events into its program. This expansion allowed athletes to showcase their skills and abilities across a more diverse range of disciplines, contributing to the overall growth and inclusivity of the WC Race Series Society.

One of the proudest achievements of the WC Race Series Society is the success of its athletes who have gone on to represent Canada on the international stage. Many participants from the series have joined Team Canada and have competed in the Paralympic Games. This success underscores the effectiveness of the series in not only providing a platform for competitive sports but also in nurturing and developing talent that can compete at the highest levels of Paralympic competition.

The evolution of the BC Road Racing Series into the WC Race Series Society showcases its commitment to fostering inclusivity, providing opportunities for athletes with physical disabilities, and contributing to the development of world-class Paralympic athletes who proudly represent Canada on the global stage.
